Overview

Disney Royals is an independently produced, Disney-inspired musical video created by Bret Shuford. Set at a royal ball hosted by Cinderella, the video combines Lorde’s “Royals” with the Trion remix of “Once Upon a Dream” before an ensemble of familiar villains takes control of the celebration.

The project brings together Broadway performers in a cinematic mashup of musical theatre, choreography, fairy-tale romance, and heightened villainy.

Contribution

Matthew Solomon served as Assistant Costume Designer, working with Costume Designer Kurt Alger to create the video’s extensive collection of heroes, royalty, and villains.

The costumes use recognizable silhouettes, signature colors, wigs, accessories, and character details to identify more than twenty fairy-tale figures immediately. The design also unifies the large ensemble within the formal ballroom setting while accommodating choreography and the project’s transition from romantic celebration to villain takeover.
