Red The Play

Associate Costume Designer · The Cape Playhouse

Overview

John Logan’s Tony Award-winning Red explores the relationship between abstract expressionist Mark Rothko and his young assistant, Ken, as Rothko works on his celebrated Seagram murals in late-1950s New York.

The Cape Playhouse production was directed by David Glenn Armstrong, bringing audiences inside Rothko’s studio and the intense creative relationship between the two artists.

Contribution

Matthew Solomon served as Associate Costume Designer to Michael McDonald. The period wardrobe grounded Rothko and Ken in the late 1950s while reflecting the contrast between the established artist and his younger assistant.
