Get Happy: A Judy Garland Centennial Celebration was a multimedia symphonic concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of Judy Garland’s birth and celebrating her enduring influence on music, film and popular culture.

Presented by the San Francisco Symphony and Endeavor Content at Davies Symphony Hall, the concert combined Garland’s legendary songbook with rare performance footage, intimate home movies, photographs and interviews projected live above the orchestra.

The San Francisco presentation featured Broadway vocalists Jessica Vosk and Andy Karl, conductor Edwin Outwater and drag performer Peaches Christ, whose appearances and commentary brought a distinctly San Francisco perspective to the celebration.

Contribution

Matthew Solomon served as Costume Designer for the San Francisco presentation, developing and coordinating wardrobe for a concert that moved between symphonic performance, Broadway presentation, multimedia storytelling and theatrical celebration.

The costumes supported the individual stage identities of the featured performers while contributing to a visual world inspired by Garland’s glamour, humor and lasting cultural legacy.

The wardrobe needed to remain effective alongside a full symphony orchestra and large-scale projected archival imagery, balancing detailed theatrical presentation with the visual clarity required for a major concert hall.
