Ben, Virginia, and ME, A New Musical

Associate Costume Designer · New York Musical Festival · 2017

Overview

Ben, Virginia, and Me: The Liberace Musical explores the life of legendary entertainer Liberace and his relationship with Las Vegas figures Ben “Bugsy” Siegel and Virginia Hill.

Presented as part of the 2017 New York Musical Festival at the Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row, the production embraced the glamour and theatrical excess of Liberace’s world through music, dance and an elaborate period wardrobe.

Critical Reception

“Director-choreographer Paul Stancato… staged a handsome production, full of flashy dance moves and even flashier costumes...”— TheaterMania

The costume design received NYMF’s 2017 Special Citation for Extraordinary Festival Costume Design.

Contribution

Matthew Solomon served as Associate Costume Designer to Kurt Alger, helping realize the production’s extensive period and performance wardrobe.

The design charted Liberace’s transformation into the flamboyant showman audiences remember, combining mid-century tailoring and period dress with increasingly extravagant furs, embellishment, sparkle and stagewear.
