Ballet of Lights: Sleeping Beauty in a Sparkling Show is a Fever Original that combines classical dance, illuminated costumes and modern lighting technology in a visually immersive retelling of the beloved fairy tale.

The one-hour production uses choreographed movement, shifting color and glow-in-the-dark costume elements to transform each turn, leap and gesture into part of the visual storytelling. Designed as an accessible new approach to ballet, the production has been presented to audiences internationally.

Contribution

Matthew Solomon served as Costume Designer, developing a cohesive costume world that combines the familiar elegance and fantasy of Sleeping Beauty with the technical requirements of an illuminated dance production.

The costumes were designed to establish character, support choreography and remain visually effective both when illuminated and under conventional theatrical lighting. Their construction also needed to accommodate movement, repeated performances and the practical requirements of a scalable international production.

Sam created the lighting and technical design for the costumes. Sam developed the integrated illuminated elements, technical systems and lighting behavior that allow color and light to move with the dancers.

The collaboration between Matthew’s costume design and Sam’s lighting and technical design transformed the dancers themselves into moving sources of light, making the illuminated costumes central to the production’s storytelling.
