Grease The Musical
Costume Designer · John W. Engeman Theater · 2017
Overview
Grease follows the students of Rydell High’s Class of 1959 as they navigate friendship, romance and teenage rebellion against the backdrop of 1950s rock ’n’ roll culture.
The John W. Engeman Theater production starred Liana Hunt as Sandy and Sam Wolf as Danny, directed by Paul Stancato with choreography by Antoinette DiPietropolo.
Critical Reception
“Costume designer Matthew Solomon does a fantastic job transporting us back to the ’50s. The dresses worn by the girls at the school dance are gorgeous and colorful, and their twirling skirts are perfect for all the dancing in that scene.”— TBR News Media
Contribution
Matthew Solomon served as Costume Designer, creating the production’s 1950s-inspired wardrobe for Rydell High’s students and surrounding characters.
The design used period silhouettes, bold color, leather, denim and character-specific details to distinguish the Pink Ladies, T-Birds and wider student body while supporting the production’s extensive choreography.
