Overview

New York City Center presented A Chorus Line as its 2018 Annual Gala production, celebrating the musical through a faithful recreation of Michael Bennett’s landmark original staging. Directed by original co-choreographer Bob Avian and choreographed by original cast member Baayork Lee, the limited engagement ran November 14–18, 2018.

The production preserved the visual language of the original Broadway production, including Theoni V. Aldredge’s iconic costume design, from the individual 1970s audition dancewear to the uniform gold finale costumes of “One.”

Contribution

Matthew Solomon served as Associate Costume Coordinator, working with Costume Coordinator Michael McDonald to recreate and maintain Theoni V. Aldredge’s original costume design for the City Center engagement. The work encompassed the character-specific audition wardrobe and the precision of the iconic gold finale, supporting a company of Broadway dancers through the production’s demanding choreography.
