Monster High Live

Associate Costume Designer · Live Production Development · 2023

Overview

Monster High Live was an original touring stage production developed from Mattel’s popular Monster High franchise. Designed as a 90-minute musical experience, the show brought characters including Frankie Stein, Draculaura, Clawdeen Wolf, and Deuce Gorgon into a new story featuring live music, dance, and the Monster Ball.

Produced by Family Entertainment Live and Full Stop Productions in association with Mattel, the production was developed and rehearsed for a planned 2023 North American tour. The tour was canceled shortly before its scheduled public premiere.

Contribution

Matthew Solomon served as Associate Costume Designer, collaborating with Costume Designer Cynthia Nordstrom to translate Monster High’s highly recognizable fashion, character silhouettes, and supernatural details into costumes for live performance.

The work involved adapting doll- and screen-based designs for human performers while supporting choreography, character transformation, durability, movement, and the heightened fashion language central to the Monster High brand.
